Red Studios is a series of paintings of local artists’ studios - including those of my friends and teachers - painted with red as a visual motif. The project started as a nod to Matisse’s Red Studio painting and generally the long tradition of artist studios as subjects in painting. The series pays attention back to the physical aspect of art practice - the work that takes place spatially and materially - and how this relates to ideas of labour and love.
